2 and 1/2 years ago I was forced into the hardest decision of my life. Reality hit that my Mom, the reason I'm in this world, dementia had progressed to a point that she needed more care than I was able to give her. Even scarier still though was finding who could I trust enough with the most precious person to me. Truth be told my Mom never wanted to be in a facility so that task became even more challenging because I had to find a place that felt like home. On a whim I had heard of a brand new place opening in Levittown and I decided to see what it was all about. I was closed off I think, and had already made up my mind that I was sure it wasn't good enough - until I walked in the door. The 1st person I met was the then director of memory care, now the executive director of Village Green, Jessica. We connected in a way I really can't explain and I let my guard down enough to embrace what Village Green was all about. And each person I met that day, helped take that wall down a little bit more. I remember very distinctly after a million questions I had , Jessica looking at me and saying "Don't worry, I've got you' it was that moment I knew we were home. My Mom was the very first resident at Village Green and from the day she moved in, until the day she left this earth, it always felt like home. Every single person there has touched my life in ways there are no words for. Mom was treated like a sort of royalty that everyone knew, and every second of every day I knew when I couldn't be there with her, everyone there was loving and caring for her. Not just because it was their job, but because they genuinely loved her. I never worried, I never felt uneasy, and most importantly my Mom was always happy. She had a way about her my Mom, that wasn't always easy, but when she felt safe she would look at you and exhale showing she knew she was ok. I saw that time and time again with so many staff members and that's priceless to me. I have so many people to thank so please forgive me if I don't say each name, but I promise each of you l am forever grateful Jennifer, Jill, Sara, Kristen, Jenny, Rosanna and all others, you all have a piece of my heart, forever. Jess you will forever be my family. You have made such a difference in Mom's life, my life, and the life of my entire family. I'm a better person for knowing you all and sharing my amazing Mom with you. I only hope that you all have always felt my appreciation over these last 2 years and know how important you all are I don't know what this life looks like without Mom, or without Village Green every day. But what I do know is that it will always be home.
